Irish Music Entertainer

Bobby Flynn began his singing career twenty years ago as part of the group "Irish Blessing" in his hometown of Chicago. The group took its name from a song written by a Catholic nun, who put the words of the familiar Irish verse "May the road rise up to meet you" to music. Irish Blessing was one of the top vocal groups in Chicago and played at major venues such as Chicago Fest on Navy Pier. In fact, one St. Patrick's day, at the request of then-mayor Jane Byrne, the group played a short concert across the city's emergency public address system! This got some notoriety when noted columnist Mike Royko alleged electioneering on the part of the mayor because the Chicago and Illinois Primary elections had fallen on St. Patrick's day that year and most of the city's fire houses were polling places!

After starting his solo career in Washington, D.C., Bobby now splits his time between the Jacksonville, FL and Louisville, KY areas, with an occasional return to Washington, DC. Sitting in with Bobby in Jacksonville, FL is Bill McArthur, who plays bohran, whistle and flute.

Although particularly fond of ballads, Bobby loves to sing just about anything and plays music by Jimmy McCarthy, Tommy Makem, the Clancys, Eric Bogle, Christy Moore, the Pogues, Stan Rogers, and others.

Bobby has also embarked on another endeavor... obtaining a masters degree in music, with an emphasis in church music and liturgy, with a concentration in composition. Bobby has one song currently published by Oregon Catholic Press (OCP) entitled "One Love Released" based upon the old English hymn tune "O Waly, Waly" (better known as the melody for the folk song "The Water Is Wide").

Attending school during the month of July, it will take four or five summers to complete work on the degree. Bobby is also available for special events and parties.

Also, look for a CD targeted for the end of the year.  More info to come.
